OnlyFans has no recommendation feed: the platform does not show you to anyone on its own. Every subscriber comes through your link from somewhere else. That is why promotion is not an add-on to content, it is half the work. And the main risk is not that nobody comes, it is that a social network bans the account you spent months building.

First, OnlyFans' Own Rules

The OnlyFans terms contain two points about promotion:

  • any link to your page must comply with both the OnlyFans terms and the terms of the platform where you post it
  • promoting your page through Google Ads or any other search engine advertising is prohibited

So if someone offers to "run Google ads" for you, that breaks the platform's rules.

Reddit

Reddit brings a lot of subscribers, but it also bans more often than other platforms. Here is why:

  • Reddit Rule 2: "participate authentically in communities where you have a personal interest", do not spam or manipulate content. An account that only posts links to your page breaks this rule, even if each individual post is allowed.
  • Rule 6: explicit content must be labeled NSFW.
  • Subreddit rules are often stricter than the sitewide ones. Many NSFW communities explicitly ban advertising and OnlyFans links. A subreddit ban is usually permanent.
  • The same post in many subreddits at once is treated by Reddit as a spam signal.
  • An unofficial norm: self promotion should be no more than about 10% of an account's activity. It is not a Reddit rule but a long standing community guideline, and moderators do pay attention to it.
  • A new account after a ban counts as ban evasion, which is prohibited sitewide. Reddit marketing specialists say the platform links accounts through device and network signals, so a new account after a ban rarely lasts long.

What actually lowers the risk:

  • read a community's rules before your first post
  • run the account like a real person: comment and take part, not just drop links
  • do not copy the same post across dozens of communities
  • always mark NSFW

X (Twitter)

Since June 2024, X has officially allowed adult content as long as it is consensually produced and shared. The conditions:

  • such posts must be marked as sensitive content. If you post them regularly, X asks you to turn on the label for all media in your settings
  • explicit content cannot be used as a profile photo or banner

X is strict about multiple accounts. The rules allow up to 10 accounts, but for different purposes. Posting identical content from several accounts, mass registering accounts, boosting trends and hashtags and circumventing platform defenses are all prohibited. The scale is clear from the numbers: from October 2023 to September 2024, X suspended 465.9 million accounts for platform manipulation and spam.

Instagram

Meta, which owns Instagram, has a rule on "sexual solicitation", and even links to third party sites with adult content can fall under it. That is why Instagram is used only for safe content: looks, lifestyle, behind the scenes, with the link presented without direct calls to action.

Instagram also watches activity. If an account follows, likes, comments or sends DMs too often, Instagram temporarily limits those actions, and repeated cases can lead to a ban. That is why new accounts are warmed up gradually.

Fansly Works Differently

Fansly has its own "For You" recommendation feed, where people who do not follow you yet can find you. So some subscribers come from inside the platform. More in our article Fansly vs OnlyFans.

Why a Team Usually Handles Promotion

Running several social accounts, knowing the rules of every platform and every community, replying to subscribers and selling all at once is almost impossible alone. One rule mistake costs an account you spent months growing. At Delmar CO, an OnlyFans agency, a traffic manager handles promotion while you create content. Read how it works in our article on OnlyFans model work.
